Rich countries caused most of the CO2 emissions that are displacing people now—they built their wealth on cheap fossil fuels while developing nations bear the worst climate impacts. It's fundamentally unjust to profit from the very thing destroying other people's homelands and then refuse to help them. We have the resources and the responsibility to take in climate-displaced populations as a matter of basic equity.
Every government's first duty is to its own citizens—their healthcare, jobs, housing, and infrastructure. Countries accepting unlimited migrants strain public services that are already underfunded, and it lets polluting nations off the hook instead of forcing them to fix their own emissions problems. Climate adaptation funding should address root causes in affected regions, not become an excuse for mass migration that destabilizes receiving countries.
